The Barberry Carpet is in the Red Data Book

The Barberry Carpet (Pareulype berberata) is a species of moth in the Geometridae family.

This species is a Red Data Book species, restricted to hedgerows of southern Britain. Very few are found each year, and this species is protected by law in Britain. This species has a brown-grey forewing, with dark crosslines, of which the outer crossline is very arched, and the outer edge is grey-white. There are also light grey blotched on the forewing. The innermost crossline is red-brown.

This species is known from ten sites in the UK, and they include sites in Dorset, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. There have been conservation attempts at these sites by Butterfly Conservation and the Forestry Commision, as well as lots of volunteers.
