The Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing (Noctua fimbriata) is a moth in the Noctuid family.

Description[]

A large moth, often exceeding 3cm in length, this species is usually orange in colour, but sometimes a dark mahogany colour. The hindwing, which is usually covered, is a deep orange, and has a thick black border, which gives the species it's name.

Range[]

Widespread throughout Britain, and often abundant, this species is found in a range of habitats, including gardens. Numbers are often increased by immigration in southern England.

Larvae[]

The larvae feed on a range of plants, including nettle and primrose.
