The Viviparous Lizard (Lacerta vivipara) is an agile little Lizard which inhabits most of the United Kingdom.

General[]

The Viviparous Lizard is common throughout the United Kingdom, it has very little competition from other Lizard species throughout much of its range however it is vulnerable to habitat loss and predation.  Staying small (up to 5") this Lizard is very fast on it's legs, often seen basking at the sides of paths or on fence posts they are often quick to flee from humans.

Habitat[]

This species inhabits a variety of areas, primarily heathland and open grassland, they are commonly found in grassy embankments and at the edges of paths or roads. They can also be found basking on rocks, metallic objects and wooden fences which face the sun.

Breeding[]

As their name suggests, this species is viviparous, giving birth to live young.
