The Fox Moth (Macrothylacia rubi) is a species of moth in the Lasiocampidae family.


A large moth, the Fox Moth is reddish brown in colour. The female is larger than the male.


The Fox Moth is widespread in Britain, inhabiting mostly grasslands and heaths.


The larvae are often seen out in the open by day, and are a hairy, red-brown colour, with a streak of white. They feed on Bilberry, heather, bramble and other plants, and can be seen from summer till spring.
