This large moth has black forewings with white stripes across them, like that of a tiger. The hindwing is red with a few black markings on it. This species flies from late Summer till early Autumn.
The form lutescens has a yellow hindwing, and is much rarer than the main form.
This species has only recently established a population in Britain, and can be seen as far north as London, though is most frequent near the coast.
The larvea feed on nettle, bramble, ground ivy, and a range of other plants.
