The Mottled Umber (Erannis defoliaria) is a species of moth in the Geometridae family.
This species is widespread in Britain, inhabiting a range of habitats.
The forewing of the males is extremly variable, from whitish to a orange-brown. There are usually a distinct dot on each forewing, but this may be absent. There is extensive freckling to the wings, as well as variable markings, which give the species its name. The female is wingless, and has a series of dots on the abdomen.
