The Pitcherplant (Sarracenia purpurea) is a species of plant in the Sarraceniaceae family.

This species is easily identified by it's pitchersm which are modified lower leaves which are like a pit, and attract invertebrates to, which they get stuck in, and slowly digested. This North American species was introduced to Ireland in 1906, and although still local, in some places it is abundant. It is also found in other places in Britain, but they are rare. The stalked flowe can reach 40cm, and are purple-red.
