The Red-sword Grass (Xylena vetusta) is a species of moth in the Noctuidae family.
Description[]
This species is very similar to the Sword-grass, but is darker with less distinct kidney and oval marks. This long and thin species looks like a broken stick when resting, and is well camouflaged.
Range and Habitat[]
This species is local in Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and northern England, and inhabits moors and bogs.
Larvae[]
The larvae feed on a range of plants including Yellow Iris and Heaths.
Immigration[]
With odd records from southern couties and counties with little suitable habitat, it appears this species does immigrate, both from Britain and the country.
