Rocks are found in the Earth's Lithosphere. This consists of the Crust and the Uppermost Mantle. They follow the Rock cycle and are formed, eroded, transported and then formed back into rocks again by diagenesis. Along with organic matter, parts of eroded rock make up soil.
What is a rock?Edit
A rock is a naturally occuring solid resource made out of minerals.
Rocks can be of three types:
- Sedimentary - Rocks which have been made by layers or minerals and compacted to form rocks via diagenesis.
- Igneous - Rocks made from cooled magma and formed from plutonic or volcanic processes.
- Metamorphic - Rocks which are recrystallised due to heat and pressure.
