Panorpa communis is a species of Scorpion Fly.Our most common species of Scorpion fly, Panorpa communis is widespread and common in Britain, found in woodlands and hedgerows. The male's abdomen has an upturned "sting" whih although harmless, gives the Scorpion Flies their names. The female lacks the "sting". The wings are heavily spotted. There are several similar species.
