Tipula maxima is a species of crane fly.

This species is one of Britain's largest species of crane fly.

The wings have brown mottling on the transparent wings. Like almost all crane flies, it rests with it's wings at a 90 degree angle. This species flies from April till August, and inhabits woodlands. This species has long legs, and like other craneflies, is attracted to light.
