The Tope (Galeorhinus galeus) is the largest of the UK smooth dogfishes.

Tope from the English Channel

The second dorsal fin is much smaller than the first, and the fish has a very streamlined shape. The jaw is well equipped with oblique sharp teeth with several flanking cusps. Feeds almost exclusively on fish. Often caught by properly equipped anglers - using thick commercial nylon traces to withstand the topes' teeth.
