Male Yellow-tail
The Yellow-tail (Euproctis similis) is a moth in the Lymantriidae family.
This species is widespread in the South and Central of Britain, but sometimes found in the North or in Ireland. This species is similar to the Brown-tail (E. chrysorrhoae), but is generally more common. This species is also slightly slimmer. Males have small blackish spots near the trailing corner of the forewing. When disturbed, this species holds it's yellow-tipped abdomen above it's wings, which distinguishes it from the Brown-tail and White Satin Moth. Female doesn't have feathery antennae.
This species flies from July-August, and sometimes in October.
